ODU Presents An Evening with Wil Haygood: The Creative Genius Behind "The Butler"
Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT)
Thank you to all who registered. We are now SOLD OUT for this event and cannot accept RSVP's for further tickets.
On Sept. 12, Wil Haygood returns to Ohio Dominican University to launch and discuss his book, “The Butler,” which has inspired the upcoming major motion picture, “Lee Daniels' The Butler,” starring Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Robin Williams, Terrence Howard, Alan Rickman, Vanessa Redgrave and Lenny Kravitz.
More than forty years after first stepping foot onto the ODU campus as a high school student, Wil Haygood, multi-published author and award-winning writer for The Washington Post, returns to ODU to launch “The Butler.”
"The Butler” was inspired by a series of articles Haygood wrote for The Washington Post in 2008 about Eugene Allen, a White House butler who served eight U.S. presidents. Haygood’s articles also have inspired a major motion picture, “Lee Daniels' The Butler,” scheduled for release on Aug. 16.
As a high school student, Haygood participated in ODU’s Upward Bound Program during the summers from 1970-72.
This event includes a discussion at 7 p.m. with Haygood and Steve Reiss, Haygood’s former editor at The Washington Post, as well as a book signing.
This event is free and open to the public.
