West County Connectors
Dennis Mak will present an update on the OCTA West County Connectors project, and Ross Lew will discuss the Transportation Management Plan for the project. The West County Connectors project is a joint partnership between OCTA and Caltrans linking high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes/carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless HOV connection amongst the three freeways.
Project Improvements include:
- Constructing two direct carpool connectors
- Adding a second carpool lane in each direction on the I-405 between SR-22 and I-605
- Reconstructing on- and off-ramps
- Constructing soundwalls and retaining walls
- Adding landscaping and enhancing aesthetic elements
Project of the Year Award Presentation
OCTEC is sponsoring a "Project of the Year" award to spotlight and publicize successfully deployed ITS and traffic engineering projects within Orange County. Projects to be considered can encompass a broad spectrum of applications from mass transit to ITS deployment to alleviating highway congestion to providing arterial improvements to emergency management to signal synchronization.

When & Where
In 1959, a very small group of Traffic Engineers in Orange County started meeting during their noon hour once each month. It had become quite evident that a dire need existed within the county for a forum within which all persons engaged in the Traffic Engineering function might periodically gather, discuss individual or mutual problems, and arrive at solutions which reflect the combined talents of the professionals and the public. The organizers were soon joined by representatives of other firms or agencies who sought to either lend their talents or become recipients of professional assistance. The ORANGE COUNTY TRAFFIC ENGINEERING COUNCIL did indeed become the desired forum.
