OCTANe has teamed with M2Catalyst to create the first annual OC Mobile Conference. M2Catalyst is a Mobile App development and global distribution company and they will bring key industry expert speakers to the conference to help generate discussion and debate on the future of the mobile markets.
This half-day program will bring together developers, startups, corporate executives, and investors to examine all aspects of the mobile ecosystem. David Butler – Senior Business Leader, MasterCard Mobile OpenAPI
Dave Butler is the Product Manager of the OpenAPI Platform at MasterCard Worldwide. He is responsible for providing the global developer community with access to MasterCard’s services and data, which bridges the gap between applications and MasterCard’s internal systems, and reduces the cost, time and resource burden of integration with MasterCard. The OpenAPI platform is designed for developers by developers and will enable exciting new services for payment-related applications. Mr. Butler has more than 25 years of engineering and IT experience. Most recently he worked as a solution architect and application developer in emerging technologies at IBM Global Business Services, delivering mission-critical technology systems across business units and industries. With specialist skills in mobile application and systems architecture and development, he was the co-founder of a start up providing mobile application solutions for mass transit organizations. Prior to his IT career in the U.S., Mr. Butler worked in the UK, retiring from the Royal Air Force as a senior engineer officer having held various command, R&D and staff positions. Mr. Butler received a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Salford University and a master’s degree in aero systems engineering from Loughborough University, both located in the UK.
Gene DeRose – Co-founder & CEO, Skymarker Labs
Gene is an investor, writer and activist who currently spends most of his time as co-founder & ceo of Skymarker Labs, creators of shopping curation service WANT!; and as founder and vice chairman of House Party, Inc. which partners with major brands to create in-home events powered by social media. A 20+ year digital pioneer, Gene co-founded and was longtime ceo of Jupiter Research, helping to define and quantify the emergence of the consumer Internet. Gene grew Jupiter to a $100m profitible company which he took public (NASD:JPTR) then sold to Media Metrix. He has spoken widely and been featured on television, major news media and conferences around the world. Gene is a University of Virgina graduate with a degree in English Literature.
Marissa Gluck - Co-founder & Managing Partner, Radar Research
Marissa Gluck, co-founder and managing partner of Radar Research, is a consultant, writer, and speaker focused on media and marketing issues. As a consultant, she has worked with companies such as Google, DoubleClick, Starwood, Sony Pictures and many others. An expert on digital marketing and technology, Gluck has often been quoted in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Advertising Age and Business Week. Additionally, she has appeared on CNBC, CBS Marketwatch, CNNfn, and NPR. Gluck was formerly a senior analyst at Jupiter Research, where she advised clients including Interpublic Group, DoubleClick, CBS, AOL Time Warner, and WPP on online advertising and marketing. Prior to joining Jupiter, Gluck was the research and emerging technologies specialist at i-traffic (now part of agency.com), providing strategic analysis and oversight of partnerships for clients such as Eddie Bauer, CDnow and Disney. Before that, she worked in account management at the advertising firm Ammirati Puris Lintas (now Lowe).
Sunil Marolia – Vice President Product Management, Smith Micro Software
Sunil Marolia is currently the Vice President of Product Management for Smith Micro Software in charge of product strategy and roadmap for their wireless and mobility products. Prior to Smith Micro, Sunil lead the product management and marketing functions at Hewlett-Packard in their Mobility Solutions Group. He also held the position of Vice President of Product Marketing and Pre-Sales at Bitfone Corporation, where he pioneered in the market definition and technology strategy for over-the-air (OTA) device management solutions, including firmware update and remote diagnostics. Sunil has co-authored several industry papers on operational challenges and best practices associated with the support of complex mobile devices including key contributions into industry standards bodies such as the Open Mobile Alliance, OTA Flash Forum, and the CDMA Development Group. Sunil holds a BSEE from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine.

Jason Penkethman has over 20 years experience in the mobile phone technology industry. He is currently serving as the Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TCS), a leading provider of Smartphone navigation and telematics technology. Prior to TCS, Jason was the Corporate Vice President of Engineering at Smith Micro Software Inc., leading an international product development team of over 250 employees. Before joining Smith Micro, he was VP Engineering at Bitfone Corp., a mobile phone software start-up, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 2007. Jason moved to California in 2002 as CEO of Downplay Inc, a subsidiary of a company that he co-founded in Finland in 2000 and expanded into the US market. Between 1989 and 2000, he held various engineering and management positions with Nokia and Motorola while based in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Finland.Jason Penkethman earned a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Swinburne University of Technology, in Australia.
Ajay Shah - CEO and Co-Founder, TVplus
Ajay Shah has been an entrepreneur in the digital technology space, creating several successful companies. Prior to launching TVplus, Ajay was co-founder and CEO of Zustek Corporation, a leading provider of email marketing software and solutions, and was also the co-founder and CEO of Handshake.com. Along with co-founder, Randy Shiozaki, Ajay created Spot411 Technologies in 2008, with a mission to change the way consumers engage with content in the digital space. The team set their sights on creating richer content and social experiences around television, and began working toward their latest product, TVplus.
A graduate of the University of California at Irvine, Ajay was awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year award by the SBA in 2006.
Dave Uhler – Slalom Consulting, National Solutions Director of Research and Development
As the solutions director for Slalom Consulting, headquartered in Seattle, Dave runs the company’s research-and-development organization on a national level. In this role, he brings a decade of technical and management experience to clients and their mobile projects. In 2009, he built the company’s mobile practice from scratch, a unit that after just one year generated $5 million in revenue for Slalom. The goal of this group is to make business information accessible wherever it resides – in the cloud or on premise. Dave’s group creates unique iPhone apps to solve specific problems for clients, but also, more broadly, the group combines technical and management expertise to create mobile solutions that drive business results. The mobile component was just one of five groups Dave has launched within the company, and all of them have gone on to become nationwide initiatives for Slalom. Prior to joining Slalom Consulting in 2003, Dave worked at AT&T Wireless where he worked in the strategic planning department as a billing technical lead. He worked for Anderson Consulting prior to AT&T Wireless. Dave got his start in the wireless industry after graduating from Pacific Lutheran University, where he studied biology, chemistry and Latin.
