Event Details

Valentine's Day has not always been all hearts and chocolates.

From ancient pagan Roman festivals to saintly relics; famous crimes to intentionally dark twists, the "Day of Love" has an intriguing and even disturbing history. Discover the day's supposed ancient origins, its namesake's many sacred parts, history's greatest love letters and most tragic ill-fated affairs at a pre-Valentine's celebration for lovers who prefer their history dark.

Join us at San Francisco's historic Armory for a private Pre-Valentine soiree, and learn about some of the blacker parts of this red day decked out in your best black and red finery.

Erected in 1914, this massive Moorish Revival castle in the Mission sits on the site of the city's first amusement park. It was once home to the National Guard Armory and hides inside its fortified walls underground streams, the site of turn of the century boxing battles, 1970s movie magic, and is now home to purveyors of the modern erotic arts.

Your ticket will include entrance to this special gathering, small group tours of the historic landmark building, and one complimentary cocktail. We shall enjoy light, aphrodisiac refreshments and Dark Valentine inspired parlor games in the Edwardian Room, while we are serenaded by local cellist Devon McClive. Local artist Jacqueline Moore will be on hand creating small pieces that will be available for purchase as mementos of the evening.

It will be a very special evening indeed. Join us, won't you?

Our artists:

Devon McClive combines classical cello playing with a modern improvisational approach. Using electronics to effect the sound of the cello; she creates different textures and layered melodies. Trained by Ellinor Benedict from the Boston Symphony, she studied privately and has played with the Salisbury State Symphony, among many other collaborations. She currently plays cello in a touring folk band, writes music for several projects, has released 3 albums of her own music and teaches classical cello lessons from her home in Berkeley, CA.

Jacqueline Moore has spent a lifetime involved in the articulation of color and design.  Her body of work engages the dynamic construction of sacred geometry with the fluid proposal of the metaphysical to offer viewers transcendence from the mundane.  She graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2013 and can be found through a trail of paint drops dripping away from murals, galleries, and local venues.
