Saturday, August 30 - Obscura Society NY: An Insider's Tour of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery
In an invitation extended exclusively to members of our New York insider's mailing list, join the Obscura Society for a private tour of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery, America's first pet burial ground and the oldest continuously operating pet cemetery in the world.
Hartsdale has been in continuous operation since 1896 when veterinarian Samuel Johnson first offered his private apple orchard as a final resting place for a client's well-loved dog. Since that day Hartsdale has grown to hold over 80,000 pets, ranging from cats and dogs to the more exotic; including several monkeys and even a pet lion once belonging to an eccentric princess. Obscura Society's resident cemetery expert Allison Meier will be guiding us through some of the touching histories and loving epitaphs of the truly adored pets that are forever memorialized within Hartsdale Cemetery's historic grounds.
- Saturday, August 30, 11:30am- 4:30 pm
- Tickets: $25
- We'll be meeting at the Grand Central Terminal Clock in the main concourse at 11:30am before catching an 11:54 Harlem train towards North White Plains. From the Hartsdale train station it will be a 15-20 minute walk to the pet cemetery, so please wear appropriate walking shoes.
