Please join us for brunch and learn about a new POC-led, gender balanced maker space in Oakland!

Founded and led by people of color, Liberating Ourselves Locally (LOL!) works for a future where members of our community can be involved in all aspects of creating things that sustain us, such as food, entrepreneurship, clothing, energy, technology, shelter, and art.  We intend to be a center that addreses head-on the race, gender, and income gap in STEM and startups.   We are a local movement whose primary purpose is to serve our communities: people of color, immigrants, poor folks, women, youth, transfolks, and queers in and around the Bay Area.  We intend to preserve and celebrate the beautiful diversity of our communities by ensuring that our leadership reflects the people we serve. We seek to make our primary services available to everyone regardless  of means.

One day, hopefully soon, we will provide space and resources where community folks can learn, teach, mentor, network,  play, experiment, and hone their skills while working on projects that they love and enjoy. Today, though, what we have is an unfurnished space and a big dream.

We are looking for cool and smart people with a social justice bent to collaborate with. We would like to tell you more about our vision, and hear your ideas and suggestions. Our space is bare, and we need your help to bring this community to life!

We suggest a donation of $5-$50, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Donations are to pay for rent and other basic necessities; we are all volunteers and no one gets paid. We would like to change this soon, but donations are not tax-deductible (if you can help with this, please let us know!).

Look forward to seeing you!
Jen-Mei, Alfonso, Praveen, Carmen, Sherbeam, and Xiaojing
