Purpose

Thepurposeof this free class is to prepareyou with the essential information needed to open and operate a community shelter. Participate as an individual or bring your entire group and learn as a team and be ready to help your community when a major disaster occurs.

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand the process to open, organize, operate and close a shelter.
  • Learn how to register people into a shelter and makereferrals for additional services, as needed. Set up and monitor a dormitory environment thatensures resident safety and comfort.
  • Practice how toset-up awelcomingreception andregistration area.
  • Understand how toset upfood distribution areas andmonitorconsumption to ensurethat residents’ dietary needs aremet.

Who Should Attend?

All interested in helping their community in providing shelter to people left without a home during a major disaster. Individuals who have had previous shelter training should consider taking this class as a refresher.
