Sustainable Software Development - Alexander von Zitzewitz
Almost every non-trivial Java software system suffers from the accumulation of technical debt and structural erosion. With every new release quality metrics and developer productivity go down, while it becomes more and more difficult to change or maintain the system. This session first looks at the technical and social causes of this industry wide problem. From there the focus will shift to possible solutions involving organizational changes, process improvements and tool-based fully automized control of quality metrics and architecture
Java SE Embedded Development Made Easy - Jim Connors
Embedded processors are so capable these days, that they often fill the role previously reserved for traditional servers and desktop systems. Thanks in part to the tremendous advances in microprocessor design and software tools, developing embedded applications gets simpler all the time. As Java SE compatible Virtual Machines are now available for the most popular configurations, Java programmers can utilize their skill set in the exact same way on these devices. This talk will focus on the ease with which Java applications can be developed, debugged and deployed on these platforms. As a major component of the presentation, a demonstration on one of the popular devices will be performed.
