NY STATE PRESENTERS NETWORK FALL CONFERENCE 

October 16-18, 2012 – The Egg Performing Arts Center, Albany, NY

The New York State Presenters Network in cooperation with the New York Council of Nonprofits offer a Fall Conference at the Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center in Albany, New York. 

The conference offers a variety of workshops and panel discussions, as well as a special track for executive directors of organizations that serve as Decentralization sites for NYSCA.

Please note: Registration Appears Free, but it is NOT. The conference payment is not being collected through this online registration, so the selection listed is free.  Payment is made separately.

Tentative Conference Agenda:

TUEsday, OCTOBER 16

1 PM – 5 PM: REGISTRATION OPEN

2 PM – 5:30 PM: SPECIAL DEC SESSIONS 

Decentralization (DEC) Hot Issues: Governance, Compliance, Fiscal Sponsorship and More

This session will address the important compliance and governance issues that are applicable to DEC applicants, as well as grantees.  The discussion will touch on primary compliance and governance issues related to the DEC Program and its applicants, including fiscal sponsorship.


Leveraging and Integrating DEC into Your Organization

This special panel discussion will feature DEC site Executive Directors discussing how they’ve leveraged and integrated their DEC Program into their organization, including programs and activities.  The discussion will focus on how to make the most of your DEC Program.   

 

4 PM – 5:30 PM: VENUE MANAGEMENT PANEL

Whether you oversee a large departmentalized operation or are wearing many hats as a venue manager – there are still common challenges performing arts venue staff meet on a daily basis.This panel will provide a forum for effectively handling matters from production to patrons to contracts to cleaning.

5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: WELCOME RECEPTION

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM: DINNER

8 PM – 9:30 PM: Performing Arts Showcase #1

9:30 PM – 10:30 PM: POST-PerFORMANCE Reception

9 AM – 10:30 AM:Avoiding HR Trouble: Human Resources Issues for Your Arts Organization

Learn about the hot employment issues confronting arts organizations and how to best address and manage their associated risks.

11 AM – 12:30 PM: Crossing Bridges not Burning Bridges

Artists and presenters discuss ways to incorporate new art forms into their presentations to develop new audiences without losing existing support

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: LuNch

 

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Making Something Out of Something

How artists can focus on a very specific target audience to help leverage more widespread community involvement

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM: For the Long Run:

Successful Presenter/Artist Partnerships That Last

Artists and presenters explore successful partnership initiatives, how they grow and who they reach

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM: DINNER

8 PM – 9:30 PM: Performing Arts Showcase #2

9:30 PM – 10:30 PM: POST-PerFORMANCE Reception

 

THURSday, OCTOBER 18

9 AM – 10:30 AM: Engaging Your Board in Raising Dollars

This session will focus on strategies for developing Board engagement in fundraising for your arts organization.

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Word of Mouth and a few other relevant Marketing Strategies

First it was relegating the print and radio ad to the list of bygone advertising methods… now – does anyone open e-mails?Read broadcast text messages? Why word of mouth is still important and other effective means of telling your story.

12:30 PM – 2 PM: LUNCH &DISCUSSION: Arts and Economic Development

A view of cultural tourism from the perspective of art makers and arts presenters.
