Mark Hovatter will share his perspective about design-build and how the use of integration will play a role in LAUSD’s capital program moving forward. Mr. Hovatter will share an introspective on the District’s philosophies and share valuable information about his building program.
Mark Hovatter, Chief Facilities Executive -Los Angeles Unified School District
Mark Hovatter is the Chief Facilities Executive for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) where he is responsible for managing the $27 billion school construction and modernization program. Mr. Hovatter has more than 30 years of experience in project and construction management, maintenance and operations, construction contracting and civil engineering. Mr. Hovatter has a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas and a Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering Construction Management from the University of Florida. He served in the United States Navy in various construction-related posts for 23 years. At the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia he served as both the Public Works Officer and the Resident Officer in Charge of Construction where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the base received two consecutive annual Commander in Chief’s Installation Excellence Awards from the President of the United States. Following his retirement from the Navy in 2003, he served as the Director of Facilities Contracts at the LAUSD where he awarded more than $5 billion in design, repair, new construction, architectural and engineering contracts. He then served as Director of Maintenance and Operations for the El Camino College District until 2009 when he returned to the LAUSD as Director of the Measure Q Bond Program, and later as Procurement Executive where he successfully merged the separate operations of Facilities Services Contracts and Procurement into the single Division of Procurement Services that awarded more than $1.5 billion in contracts for goods and services, and construction annually. Mr. Hovatter assumed his position as Chief Facilities Executive July 1, 2012.
