This month's topic:

~:~ The Buiness of the FILM BUSINESS ~:~
Lights, camera, action!... Then what? Should you shoot first and ask questions later? Or get stuck in trying to get all your ducks in a row first?

This month's Nosotros POTN in collaboration with NALIP is all about taking your project through the essential steps necessary to ensure it is seen by more than your family and friends!

Our featured panelist will share their detailed step-by-step insighst to understanding all the financial resources for financing your film, how to create the tools necessary to close that financing, and your options to distribute your film. Learn how to add value to your film before you make it, and hear about the opportunities you have if you already have it... "in the can."

In addition, panelist Hector Echavarria ("Chavez: Cage of Glory")  and Douglas Spain ("Mission Park") will be discussing their real-world case study of how they made their films a reality and secured the financing and distribution.

Mike Doban - The Man behind the release of CHAVEZ: CAGE OF GLORY. Mike’s career in the sales and marketing world of film and television started in 1982 with United Artists Theatres. Mike’s initial focus was domestic film programming until 1988 when he was promoted to the head of the National Film Department. As head of the film department, Mike was responsible for coordinating content programming for the U.S. market, as well as handling all financial negotiations with major studios and independent film distributors. Mike was responsible for all of the major international markets including Mexico, South America, Asia and Europe. Mike had the vision to launch Arcangelo Entertainment, a privately held firm specializing in independent film marketing and distribution. Through Mike’s expertise, Arcangelo quickly built up a robust client base, including Televisa (Mexico), Roskinoprokat (Russia), Geneon (Japan) and many U.S. based clients. In 2004, Mike used his twenty-two years of industry experience to spearhead and co-found Freestyle Releasing. Mike’s expertise, industry knowledge and leadership helped Freestyle earn clients such as Yari Film Group, After Dark Films, Vivendi Entertainment and Videocine. Mike personally oversaw and managed a multitude of film releases that varied in venue and market size. Among these projects was The Illusionist, which was released into 1440 theaters and grossed $40.1 million domestic. The low budget independent film, A Day Without A Mexican, was released into 106 theaters and grossed $4.2M.

Hugo Hernandez - Hugo Hernandez began his career in the late 1990’s with Sony Pictures working in the infancy of the DVD in International Finance. He was later offered a position to assist in the growth of the format at Warner Bros where he worked on the MGM Acquisition and had revenue-reporting responsibility in Excess of $2 Billion Dollars.  Hugo has worked in Private Equity and various start-ups including his last project commercial aviation project for a head of State in Latin America. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Cal State Northridge.

Hector Echavarria - Idolized by millions in Latin America, and a legendary world Martial Arts champion, Hector Echavarria, brings to the Hollywood film industry a background of business success, acting experience, and martial arts expertise. In addition to producing and starring in his own films, Hector has become an industrial force- with his own clothing line, martial arts federation, real estate holdings, children’s toys and action figures, and an entertainment production company. And now, with his multi-picture slate of action films in which he stars and produces, others are calling him the Tyler Perry of the Hispanic action market. His filmmaking expertise starts with a multi-picture deal to produce and star in a series of action films distributed on Blue Ray and DVD by Lionsgate. These included Death Warrior, Confessions of a Pit Fighter, Never Surrender, and the horror film Lake Dead. And most recently with Chavez: Cage of Glory, which he also wrote and directed. The film has a multi-city theatrical rollout beginning this month.
