San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Northwest Alt-Blues Recess has always been a traveling event. We were even planning to take a break for NWBR in 2012. . . then we foudn the Bellingham Lookout Arts Quarry in 2011. This past year at The Quarry was so spectacdtular, we just couldn't help ourselves. In 2012 NWBR will be happenning at the same location as last year, just one week earlier, so to give ourselves an extra week of detox before we head to The Playa to do it all over again :-)
Northwest (Alt) Blues Recess was the second of a new series of unique national blues fusion exchanges that focus on building dancer community and solidarity, love for nature and the outdoors, and unrestrained self-expression through fusion music and dancing. This year NWBR is renting an 86 acre rock quarry gone circus community south of Bellingham, WA. We have access to a hard-wood floored yurt and an aerialists warehouse with radiant-heated floors for late nights, flooded quarry pits for daytime swimming and cliff jumping, and thousands of acres of surrounding national forest for hiking, exploring, and dancing!
Registration price is a bit higher than last year (opening at $135 and peaking out at $185), but note that it includes ALL meals from Friday brunch until Monday lunch, including a 1am meal at all late nights. We will be sourcing from local, organic farms as much as possible and will be enlisting the help of all of YOU, the participants, in preparing and planning the meals. Last year NWBR sold out in 72 hours, so register ASAP!
Yes, one of the goals of the Blues Recess is to keep events as affordable and financially accessible as possible. This goal includes providing communal meals so that your costs for the weekend (after registration) are negligible. A large portion of the registration price goes towards feeding you, the dancers! The registration fee includes Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday meals. We try and source as much of the food as possible from local, organic producers, and will it will all be cooked and prepared by the dancers, YOU!!
