Northern Light:  Masters of Scandinavian and Russian 19th Century Painting
The Art of Zorn, Kroyer, Repin, Serov, and Levitan

A lecture by Sean Forester,  Sunday, January 26, 2 pm

Lucas Digital Arts Complex Dining Commons, Bldg A
The Presidio, San Francisco

The lecture is offered in conjunction with Anders Zorn: Sweden's Master Painter a current exhibition at the Legion of Honor.  Sean Forester, a classical painter and Cambridge alum, will place Zorn's art in the context of his Scandinavian and Russia contemporaries.  Discover the artists of northern light, masters of realism and impressionism: Zorn, Kroyer, Repin, Serov, and Levitan.  Peter Trippi, Editor of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine will make a special guest appearance.

The talk and reception will be in the Lucas building with its sweeping views of the Palace of Fine Arts and the Golden Gate Bridge.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.

The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco describes the Zorn Exhibition below and we encourage those of you who have not yet seen it to do so:

" Anders Zorn (1860–1920) dazzled the art world with his bravura paintings, watercolors, and etchings.  In Paris he emulated the Impressionists as a chronicler of modern life, while in America he rivaled John Singer Sargent as the most sought-after portraitist of glittering high society. Back at home Zorn captured his native folk culture and the serenity of the Nordic landscape.  This major retrospective promises to be a revelation for those yet to discover the vibrant artistic personality of Sweden’s master painter."
