Event Details

The 2nd annual Northbound Caravan will be taking place at The KAXE Ampitheater on Saturday, August 9th at 5PM featuring Sonny Johnson, The Brothers Burn Mountain, The Slamming Doors, and Erik Koskinen Band.

The Northbound Caravan is proud to be hosting these wonderful Minnesota acts!

Since moving to Minneapolis eight years ago, Erik Koskinen has amassed a following as a musician, songwriter, producer and engineer. With experience stemming from years of traveling north to south and coast to coast, Koskinen taps those adventures and encounters in his second album American Theatre, the follow-up to the acclaimed Keep It to Yourself.

With their funky grooves and bluesy melodies, The Slamming Doors sound like the sort of band you’d want to hear at your favorite watering hole on a Friday night, once the working week has given way to a hard-won weekend. They just released they’re first full length album, Road BeneathThe Wheel, which the Duluth News Tribune has called it “One of the year’s best.”

“The [Brothers Burn Mountain] are a duo of electric guitar and drums playing blues-infused music, like The Black Keys but different. Swirling harmonies are set atop fast rhythms, drums are synced up or pulled perfectly away from guitar riffs--it's tight but not stiff, locked but not robotic. Seeing them play is definitely a hypnotic treat.” - Brad Nelson from The Duluth Brews Tribune, drummer of The Black-eyed Snakes and The Boomchucks.

Growing up, Sonny Johnson was exposed to many different styles of music and artists. From Dylan and Cash to Stevie Wonder and Marley, as well as the traditional hymns played in the church by his Father. At the age 13, Sonny asked his dad to show him how to play a few chords on the guitar. Within a few months Sonny had enrolled in guitar lessons and joined his Father on stage at the small church his family attended. Around the age of 16 Sonny discovered a love for a more "Indie" style of music, bands such as, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, and The Civill Wars (all of which Sonny covers frequently in his live shows). This type of music caused Sonny to become more serious in songwriting and performing and still have a strong influence on his music today.

The event takes place at KAXE Northern Community Radio Ampitheatre. Sonny Johnson kicks of the event at 5:00pm. The Brothers Burn Mountain will follow. The Slamming Doors after that, and then Erik Koskinen will finish the night off.
