2. Presentation (50 minutes): Cognitive Business: Placing light on your data!

Speaker: Romelia Flores

Session Abstract:

IBM's Cognitive Business strategy asserts that every decision that mankind makes is informed by a cognitive system. This presentation reviews the critical success factors involved in IBM's cognitive strategy and provides examples of how clients are adopting Cognitive Business to improve our lives. Discussion on Design Thinking approaches, cognitive platforms and data integration techniques will be reviewed.

Speaker BIO:

Romelia Flores is one of IBM's top 500 technical executives, earning the titles of IBM Distinguished Engineer and IBM Master Inventor. She has collaborated with some of IBM's largest clients around technology innovation, and holds 25 patents with an additional 26 patents pending. She has personally trained thousands of IBMers, and specifically focuses on early-career professionals from the Millennial Generation. Romelia’s technical interests are in architecture design and prototyping. Romelia became a University of Texas alumnus 32 years ago, and a Baylor Honorary alumnus in 2014! In 2015, Romelia has been a part of the DFW ATW Advisory board, was named Dallas Metroplex’s Inventor Tech Titan Finalist and Latina Style Magazine Executive of the Year Finalist.



3. Presentation (50 minutes): Data Governance-in-a-Box: Establishing an end-to-end Data Governance program with people, process and technology

Speaker: Sunil Soares

Session Abstract:

In this session, Sunil Soares will discuss the best practices to implementing a data governance program based on people, process and technology. Specific topics include the following:

  • Defining data categories in conjunction with Information Architecture

  • Identifying and certifying data stewards

  • Setting up Critical Data Elements

  • Establishing policies and standards

  • Creating data quality rules, scorecards and data issue resolution

  • Formulating acceptable use business rules in conjunction with Privacy and Compliance

  • Setting up Data Sharing Agreements

  • Setting up workflows

  • Leveraging tools from vendors such as Collibra, DAG, IBM, Informatica, Oracle, SAS and Trillium

Speaker BIO:

Sunil Soares is the founder and managing partner of Information Asset, a consulting firm that specializes in helping organizations build out their information governance programs. Prior to this role, Sunil was the Director of Information Governance at IBM, and worked with clients across six continents and multiple industries. Sunil is the author of several books including The IBM Data Governance Unified Process, Selling Information Governance to the Business, Big Data Governance, Data Governance Tools and The Chief Data Officer Handbook for Data Governance.



4. Presentation (50 minutes): Humanizing Business Insights with Social Data

Speaker: Babar Bhatti

Session Abstract:

The last decade has seen a rapid influx of various social networks. Social media has changed the world by connecting people in unprecedented ways.

This explosion of unstructured data — text, photos, videos — has a big impact on the way businesses are run. In this talk, we talk about why social data is unique, why it’s valuable and what are some of the top business use cases for social data. We discuss how the human element is front and center now and how it changes the relationships between businesses and their customers.

We also talk about the technologies and trends that are used behind the scene to collect, analyze and visualize social data.

Speaker BIO:

Babar Bhatti is founder and CEO of MutualMind, an early-stage social intelligence software company, based in Addison. MutualMind’s cloud-based software is used by companies such as IBM, Hilton, American Airlines and AT&T.

Babar comes from an engineering background and loves data, analytics and problem solving. He lives in Flower Mound with his soccer-obsessed family.
