Youth Mentorship Partners:
NOLA Women on Bikes is open group of women and women identified bicycle riders that promote biking as a community building opportunity in the Greater New Orleans region. For more info visit our our website here.
The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) is a community-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides intensive case management, mentoring and educational services to at-risk New Orleans youth. YEP strives to provide the highest quality services to all of their youth and their families. YEP's newest program, the Trafigura Work & Learn (W&L) Center, is modeled after the highly successful W&L Center operated by Domus Kids in Stamford, CT. The W&L Center, located in the Central City area of New Orleans, is a youth employment program comprised of several youth-run businesses. Youth participants ages 16 to 24 gain valuable life skills, job training, soft skills and the confidence necessary to help them secure employment and create positive futures for themselves. Currently, the W&L Center offers students training in bicycle repair, including an all-girls cohort (which is the first in the world funded by the Trafigura Foundation). They are also opening a storefront retail store to sell affordable repaired bikes and other youth produced goods in December 2013.
Crescent City Bike Tours (CCBT) is a local bicycle tour and rental company located in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Founded in 2013 by Kristine Bacharach and Richie Runnels, CCBT provides locals and visitors alike an opportunity to learn about New Orleans' deep cultural history from the vantage point of a bicycle. In addition to the tours, they operate and maintain a fleet of bicycles for rental. Kristine, a native New Orleanian, is a member of Women on Bikes, an avid cyclist, and a former U.S. Military servicewomen paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. NOLA Women on Bikes considers her a "Roll-Model" and we're excited she will be a mentor to our first youth "spokeswomen."
