Event Details

2014 Nobel Peace Prize Forum

The Nobel Peace Prize Forum is a four day international event that inspires peacemaking by celebrating the work of Nobel Peace Prize winners. Attendees may purchase tickets for a single day or for all four days. The 2014 topic is Crossing Boundaries to Create Common Ground.

In probing the questions of peace and conflict, the Forum is not a “sit and listen” experience. During plenary sessions, attendees hear firsthand of the struggles and triumphs of Laureates and other internationally known keynoters. The dynamic Q&A following these presentations engages the global audience in the experience. Just as importantly, attendees participate in highly interactive break-out sessions dedicated to both policy and practice. Robust networking with other attendees from diverse backgrounds adds a highly individual dimension.

Faith and Peace Day - Saturday, March 1st, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm (time subject to change)

This day addresses the role of faith in advancing or impeding peace and human rights. The day will start with a keynote address from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, followed by robust break-out sessions and then a final keynote address from Sister Helen Prejean. During the noon hour, attendees de-brief with friends over their own brown bags or at a local restaurant. Discount student price is available to currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students.

Law and Business Day - Friday, March 7th, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm (time subject to change)

Held at Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota West Bank, this day explores the relationship of the rule of law to human rights and world stability, as well as the role played by business in these arenas. Mr. Ian Bremmer, founder and president of Eurasia Group, will hold the afternoon Keynote address and the morning Keynote will be announced soon. There will be multiple dynamic break-out sessions in between the two Keynote addresses. During the noon hour, attendees network with friends over their own brown bags or at a local restaurant. Discount student price is available to currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students.

Health and Science Day - Saturday, March 8th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (time subject to change)

Held at Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota West Bank, this day explores the ways science and health contribute to human rights and global security. Nobel Laureate Doctors Without Borders, represented by American President Dr. Deane Marchbein, anchor the day. A second keynote address by internationally known Dr. William Foege will round off the day, with multiple vibrant break-out sessions in between. During the noon hour, attendees de-brief with friends over their own brown bags or at a local restaurant. Discount student price is available to currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students.

Global Day - Sunday, March 9th, 10:00 am - 5:30 pm (time subject to change)

Held at Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota West Bank, this day begins with an interfaith worship service and continues by examining wide topics that underpin human rights and peace. Culminating with the Laureate address by charismatic Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee, the day includes thought-provoking break-out sessions and a keynote address by Michael Posner. During the noon hour, attendees network with friends over their own brown bags or at a local restaurant. Discount student price is available to currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students.
