"Nine On The Ninth" Open Mic Poetry is the legendary monthly poetry series that debuted back in October 2005
Derrick Weston Brown
It's a feature driven format, which means, the feature opens the show and the open mic follows. We do this to make sure you get the full effect of each and every specially selected feature we bring to the Langston Room stage, and we've had plenty; From Def Poetry Jam's, Tara Betts, Bassey Ikpi, Roger Bonair Agard and Regie Cabico, to award winning poets such as Reginald Dwayne Betts, Rachel Eliza Griffiths, Sarah Browning, to rare visits by Grammy nominated artists Christylez Bacon and Carolyn Malachi.
Christopher K.P. Brown has performed throughout the east coast and southern region of the United States, including feature performances at the following : VERSES at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe – New York, NY, Jus' Words Open Mic – Philadelphia, PA , Street Poets NYC present Thee Open Mic – Brooklyn, NY, Organic Soul – Baltimore, MD and many other notable spots.
In the summer of 2008, Christopher embarked upon a ten show tour known as the Straight No Chaser tour. Motivated by the acquittal of the police officers who killed young African American male, Sean Bell, the tour expanded the 2 Pens & Lint support base and improved the sells of POETRY: a hip hop album. He created a buzz for the tour by producing his own mixtape. After sending out 500 free copies of the mixtape to those who supported his career over the years, he headed to Atlanta, Macon, Little Rock, Baltimore, and Washington DC to do shows.
Now that he has graduated and is focused on doing poetry full time, Christopher is working everyday to establish 2 Pens & Lint as a well known and respected company that concentrates on building poetry as an industry in which poets are able to pay their bills and feed their families with money made from the works they create.
