Due to the insecurities of armed conflict, increasing cases of domestic and societal violence, and the alarming growth of human trafficking, women and children are suffering as the most vulnerable segment of African societies. This conference will bring together women from Nigeria, Kenya, and the USA, and provide opportunities to learn from and brainstorm with policy makers, leaders of established organizations, and each other, in order to come up with strategies to create and enact peace building, peace keeping, and the protection of women and children in Nigeria, Kenya, and other African nations.
OUR PRIMARY QUEST SPEAKERS:
SANDIE MORGAN, RN, MA
Sandie Morgan is a Director of Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women & Justice, as well as a professor of Women’s Studies, and teaches courses on family violence and human trafficking. She served as Administrator of the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force in the battle against the modern slave trade. Sandie has been interviewed by the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, LA Times, the OC METRO Business Magazine, the OC Register, KOCE – Real Orange, and other media.
DR. KAKA AHMED EL-YAKUB, RN, PhD
Dr. El-Yakub is a researcher and professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and lectures in the Departments of Political Science and also Administration and Nursing Sciences, at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. She has held many leadership offices including Permanent Secretary of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment, Borno State Governor’s Office, and Director of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in the Ministry of Women's Affairs & Social Development, Borno State. Dr. EL-Yakub is a member of several national and international groups, among which are the British Sociological Association, U.K. and the School of Applied Social Sciences, University of Durham U.K.

Wednesday, May 22, on-site registration & check-in begins at 9:00am. Orientation and programs begin at 10:00am, and end at 4:00pm
Thursday, May 23, programs begin at 10:00am and end at 4:00pm
Friday, May 24, programs begin at 10:00am and end at 4:00pm followed by a sampling of African foods and a special presentation of awards and certificates.
Regular breaks will be provided daily during the conference. Meals will be available at the Vanguard University Cafe. Breakfast is $7, Lunch is $8, and dinner is $9.
