MnSCU Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop
March 21-23, 2013, at North Hennepin Community College
North Hennepin Community College and Bemidji State University are offering a two-day Sustainability Across the Curriculum workshop for faculty of all disciplines who wish to integrate sustainability into their curriculum. The workshop will run from approximately 4 pm Thursday March 21 to 4pm Saturday March 23, 2013 at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN.
Through an intensive, lively and fun two days of presentations, exercises, discussions, reflection, and planning, participants will become familiar with integrating sustainability in their curriculum, as well as the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project<http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/ponderosa/> at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory in the Piedmont Project<http://www.scienceandsociety.emory.edu/piedmont>.
Participants will also experience a range of workshop strategies, hear local experts, enjoy place-based activities, participate in a field trip and dialogue with faculty from other disciplines and campuses as they gain skills in incorporating sustainability in their own syllabi and lesson plans. In a supportive, engaging and stimulating environment, workshop members will reflect on their own roles in this transformation of higher education. Readings and materials will also be provided.
The workshop will be facilitated by Ana Davis, English Faculty & Sustainability Council chair at NHCC and Erika Bailey Johnson, Sustainability Coordinator at BSU. Ana and Erika participated in the July 2012 Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership Workshop organized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) at San Diego University and co-facilitated the first MnSCU Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop at Bemidji State University in March 2012.
