Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a research-based data-driven model that works with all students including those with challenging behavior issues. PBIS offers a school-wide approach for identifying, teaching and acknowledging behavioral expectations to foster the most optimal school and learning climate.
Session Overview: This full-day session will provide participants with an overview of the Team Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) model which enables users to become more efficient and effective at using data for decision-making during team meetings. Participants will concentrate on utilizing data to apply a functional perspective to behavior. Structured activities will be presented to allow participants to create action plans to use in their schools.
Please Note: Presentation materials will be posted on the New York State PBIS website and will be provided to participants via a flash drive at time of training rather than paper versions. Please visit Regional Forum Materials to see a full list of materials. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to utilize the flash drive during the training or may print the session documents in advance.
Who should participate: District or building level teams who are currently implementing PBIS. This may include team members from the Universal, Targeted and Intensive school teams such as administrators, team leaders, data coordinators and any other team members.
Prior to the forum: Participants should gather 2011-2012 total school office discipline referrals to bring to the training. If possible, please bring a break-down of referrals by student, by location, by time, by behavior, and per day/per month. Bringing this data will allow your team to maximize the experience during the training activities. Data will not be shared, but personal identifying information (e.g., names) should be redacted in order to maintain confidentiality.
