Inviting all Chapter members, volunteers, sponsors, green building practitioners and advocates to Deagan's in Lakewood for our first networking session this year. Time to shake off the cold.
Deagan's is another locally owned bar / restaurant with a great story of renovation and upcycling that began in May 2010. They removed the damaged plaster to reveal the original brick walls and uncovered a spectacular oil painting in the process. The majority of the wood paneling in Deagan's is reclaimed from a former 1880 North Canton barn. The quaint mismatched furniture was "previously used" in schools and other restaurants. Even the ceiling boasts 25% recycled panels. Deagan's also incorporates many menu items from local sources.
During this networking sessions we'll be showcasing our Seeds for School Sustainability programs where local K - 12 educators will "pitch" their ideas for creating a sustainability based project for their classroom. Attendees can vote on which project idea should receive up to $250 in funding. If you are or know of a K-12 educator who might benefit from this micro-loan, then contact Kathy Rocco at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
There is no cost to attend this event. Just cover your own bar tab and bring plenty of business cards.
