Because 13.1 Is Only Half Insane.

Runners are all a bit crazy. We spend our Saturdays doing long runs, strategize about negative splits, wake up sweating at 3am worrying about whether or not our GPS watch is charging, and have a million other oddities that make us runners. But we can all agree that running 26.2 miles is clearly insane. Running 13.1? Nearly insane, but also nearer to sanity than attempting to recapitulate Pheidippides’ crazy route to Athens!

The Nearly Sane Trail Half Marathon will be 13.1 miles through the trails of the Des Plaines River Trail. This is a true trail run, not a jaunt through Naperville on crushed limestone trails. You will be dodging roots and rocks, running over downed trees, ducking under low hanging branches, and navigating other natural obstacles. This will be a great trail race for new trail runners, but also have enough challenges to satisfy the seasoned trail runner.

All runners will receive a race t-shirt, a customized race bib (only available if you register before July 20, 2013), a finisher’s medal, free snacks following the race, and an awesome story for their friends and family. There will be food, soft drinks, and locally crafted beer available for purchse after the race.

The race will begin at 9am on Saturday, August 10, 2013. The course will close at 2pm, which means there is a 5 hour limit for all runners.

All finishers will have their race count toward the “Popes of Avignon” and the “Plenary Indulgence” challenges.

Price schedule is as follows:


$55 until June 30


$60 from July 1 to July 31


$65 from August 1 to race day

Our goal is to provide Chicagoland with the best possible trail running experience. From the course design to the staff at the aid stations to the beer served at the after party, our #1 goal is for you to have the best time possible.

We are partnering with local small businesses in the Chicagoland area to start a series of trail races beginning in the fall of 2012.
