TACKLING THE IMPROVISED MUSICAL
SATURDAY 2/15 10AM - 1230PM
Tackling the Improvised Musical is a whirlwind tour through the art and science of the improvised musical. Focused on tangible techniques, this workshop makes the often intimidating long-form musical accessible to any experienced improviser willing to take a few creative risks. Through iconic song types like "the I Wish Number," "Love/Hate Duets" and "Openers," discover how structure can set you free. We'll explore concepts like improvising backwards to help tackle narrative in a productive, organic way. We'll dive into the powerful connection between music and emotion as a tool for opening up new approaches to scenework. Bring a notepad; this workshop will load you up with take-aways to bring home and put into action. Always dreamed of trying an improvised musical? This is your chance. Already performing improvised musicals? Explore the method behind the madness with one of the foremost music directors in the country.
For improvisers who are comfortable with longform improvisation and confident singing onstage (regardless of how that singing might actually sound). Previous music improv experience is helpful but not required.
