Event Details

Native Tongue is a storyslam coming to New York City showcasing true stories about the lives of Muslim Americans. This show's theme is "Heartbreak" as our storytellers share everything from jilted tales of high school crushes, to goofy anecdotes about their parents not buying them Ninja Turtle action figures to eulogies mourning the loss of their pet hamsters.

The audience will vote on the best storyteller of the evening, who gets to take home a prize along with bragging rights!

Muslims come from cultures as colorful as the landscape in New York City and often come from heritages rich in storytelling traditions. Native Tongue is a show celebrating and reviving our storytelling roots.

The show will be hosted by Cyrus McGoldrick, renowned activist and musician, and will feature stories from:

Khalid Latif (Chaplain at the Islamic Center at NYU)
Musa Syeed (award winning filmmaker, Sundance Film Festival winner)
Aman Ali (30 Mosques in 30 Days co-creator, Mario Kart prodigy)
Nzinga Knight (fashion designer, NY Fashion Week)
Commarrah Jewelia Bashar (actress/performer)
Nada Haq-Siddiqi (biomedical engineer, cat enthusiast)
