National Walk to Save Homeless Youth (Buffalo)
Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (EDT)
NATIONAL WALK TO SAVE HOMELESS YOUTH will be held on Saturday, October 19th.
Compass House and Plymouth Crossroads has organized this awareness walk to increase the knowledge of area youth, young adults and families on the plight of homeless youth and promote the walk participants’ engagement with local agencies and resources. Other cities across the nation will be participating in locally planned walks united by one purpose - raise awareness about runaway and homeless youth in our communities.
The Buffalo leg of the Walk will assemble at the Compass House Emergency Shelter located at 370 Linwood Avenue at 11am. Walk participants and volunteers will walk approximately 0.7 miles down Linwood Ave, to Summer St over to the American Red Cross Training Building located at 786 Delaware Ave.
At the conclusion of the walk participants will be welcomed in for a 30-45 minute program that includes the showing of the Hidden Homeless video (25 min) created by Nadia Pizarro and Mouse Media Productions on the lives of homeless youth and youth serving-agencies in Buffalo working to make a difference (including Compass House, TRY, the Franciscan Center and Plymouth Crossroads), testimonies of 1-2 local formerly homeless youth and will end with a call to action (get educated, get invested, get active). Coffee and refreshments will be served. Space for information tables will be offered to youth-serving agencies and attendees will be able to donate personal care items (soap, deodorant, clothing, toothbrushes, packaged underwear, etc.) that will be divided between agencies.
