Join the Southern California Mountains Foundation, Bear Valley Trails Foundation, Big Bear Cycling Association, Big Bear Mountain Resorts and REI for National Trails Day 2014!
Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance and builing within the South Shore Trail Network, a multi-use trail system which includes 23 miles of newly-designated trails that need to be brought up to U.S. Forest Service trail standards. Trail builing and finishing work will be focused on the east and the west ends of the new Skyline Trail. Trails are located near Snow Summit Mountain Resort. Check-in will start at 8:30am at the base of Snow Summit and trail work will begin at 9:00am. All volunteers participating in National Trails Day will recieve one Scenic Sky Chair Ticket good for the same day or a later date in 2014, t-shirt and lunch provided by REI. Bring your bike and head out on a free bike ride led by the Big Bear Cycling Association after lunch. Guided mountain bike rides are for intermediate to advanced levels.
How to prepare:
Please wear long pants, closed toed shoes, bring reusable water bottle and gloves if you have them. All tools and instruction will be provided; no experience necessary.
Check-in at Snow Summit Mountain Resort parking lot @ 8:30am, located at 880 Summit Blvd. Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Work party will be from 8:30am - 12pm.
Event is limited to 100 volunteers, pre-registration required. National Trails Day partners include Southern California Mountains Foundation, Bear Valley Trails Foundation, Big Bear Cycling Association, Big Bear Mountain Resorts and REI.
