The 411 on Potty Training
Description: Potty training is a huge milestone in a child's life. Learn the signs a child demonstrates when they are ready to potty train, as well as, different strategies to promote success. In addition, you will learn techniques on what to do when a child has a set-back or accident.
Speaker: Jennifer Mihm, BCBA, has worked with families and their children with autism and other disabilities-as a teacher, therapist, program manager and clinical consultant. She has directly provided, and supervised, ABA therapy in home based, center based and educational environments and has a track record of success helping children with a variety of behavioral challenges.
Picky Eating: When to Be Concerned and How You Can Help
Description: Isn’t every child a picky eater? Learn the difference between a “picky eater” and a feeding disorder in our how-to-guide designed to help you understand your charges needs better. Red flags and specific feeding disorders will be identified, as well as ways to help your picky eater become a more successful and confident eater.
Speaker: Kim Augenstein is a Florida native with her Bachelors of Health Science and Masters of Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida. Kim has worked in various settings, including camps for children with special needs, retirement homes, and hospitals. She enjoys being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Kim is a member of the North Shore Pediatric Therapy Feeding Team
Development A-Z and making playtime count!
Description: Tamara Kaldor, a developmental therapist and child development expert, will share expert tips for getting on the floor to play with young children to support their overall development that will make your playtime with kids fly by! Learn the major developmental milestones for young children, how to recognize when a child may be delayed, how to increase language development, gross motor skills and PLAY with children to support all their areas of growth!
Speaker: Tamara Kaldor, M.S. is a developmental therapist and the founder of Play is Work™. Tamara has an MS in Child Development from Erikson Institute and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Tamara has been supporting Chicago families with children with autism, sensory processing disorder, learning disabilities and developmental delays. She specializes in working with children and families to find success at home and in school. Tamara is trained in and specializes in using the DIR®/Floortime™ therapy model, providing inclusion support services in the classroom, and using technology to assist in children’s social-emotional learning. Tamara also partners and collaborates with parents and teachers to develop tools to help their children grow and move families forward. This happens primarily through effective and engaging play-based tools for addressing developmental delays, PLAY IS WORK™.

Description: Learn how to use technology effectively in natural environments, this workshop explores use of the iPad with young children. The iPad can be used as part of a successful intervention strategy to improve development in the areas of communication and learning, articulation, expressive language and comprehension, following routines, transitions, and emotional processing and expression. High quality, professionally tested apps will be demonstrated, while strategies and techniques for using the iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone devices to support very young children’s social-emotional development, fine motor skills, and engagement will be discussed.

A Nanny in the Family
Description: Children grow best when they feel safe and secure to explore the world. Sometimes parents and nannies wonder about their children’s relationship with a nanny and how it affects the family. In this workshop, we will learn about how attachment to a nanny is different from attachment to a parent, and why both are important.
Speaker: Laura Brock has provided clinical services to children and families since 2007, with a focus on early childhood assessment and treatment for issues such as ADHD, disruptive behavior, child and family trauma, anxiety, and childhood depression.
At Erikson’s Center for Children and Families, Laura provides developmental, psycho-educational, and psychological evaluations and counseling services as part of her post-doctoral studies.
How to know if it is the “right” family
Description: The hunt for the right job can be complex and grueling. After a while it may be tempting to settle for any job. It is easy to make assumptions about the job that turn out to not be accurate. This workshop will help you ask the right questions and read between the lines so that you can choose the family that best fits your personality and capabilities.
Speaker: Since 1996, Marcia Hall has been working with children and families as a Certified Professional Nanny and an ACPI Certified Coach for Families. In 2011 she was named the International Nanny Association’s NANNY OF THE YEAR. Marcia is a graduate of the English Nanny and Governess School and is an INA Credentialed Nanny. She is an advocate for children in every area of her life serving as a children's ministry director, a "Big" with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program and as a foster parent. Marcia works with families of any age and size as a Family Coach. Marcia teaches families in her community and around the country through workshops, one on one coaching and through her writing. She writes weekly for a blog called YOUR Parenting Questions as well as many other websites and blogs. Her first book Parenting Responsively co-written with 11 other ACPI Parent Coaches came out the summer of 2011.

Who should attend? Anybody is welcome to come who is in the childcare industy and is eager to learn and network with other childcare professionals.
Can I get a refund? Space is limited for this event so we will not offer refunds.
What to wear? Please dress business casual and bring a sweater in case it's chilly.
Do you need to bring a printed ticket? We will be checking you in at the door, if you do not have a ticket, we will be checking that your name in on the list so please have an id with you.
Can I sell my ticket if I can not attend? YES! Please contact us so we can make the change on our attendance list and have a certificate ready in the correct name.
