 September 10th, 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the World Suicide Prevention Day. This world wide day of awareness is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). As one of the leaders in the mental health community, NAMI is sponsoring a FREE local event to share prevention strategies, education, and dissemination of information. Pre-registration is mandatory. Lunch will be on your own but numerous neighborhood options are available. Free CEU's (3.5hrs) offered to LCSW's, MFT's, RN's, and CADAAC's for full attendance.  

Keynote Speaker:  Supervisor Shirlee Zane, Chairwoman of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors

Workshop Topics:

  • Compassion fatigue
  • Native Americans as a high risk group
  • Older adults as a high risk group
  • Helping children heal after a parent suicide
  • LGBTQQI as a high risk group

Opportunity to complete several gatekeeper trainings including:

  • QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)
  • Operation S.A.V.E. for Vets by the local V.A.
  • At Risk for High School Educators by Kognito Interactive

  • This panel of courageous individuals will emphasize the high risk group of those with a mental health diagnosis and suicidality

Closing performance by Brian Wetzel, a professional comedian and speaker whose career and personal life were absorbed by his 20 year struggle with clinical depression and subsequent addiction.
