Pre-conference workshop sessions take place Sunday, March 16th from 8:30am - 12:00pm before the main stage talks begin at 1:00pm. All workshops involve hands-on activities and offer tips and tools that you can take back to your real life.

*PLEASE READ: Workshops are not included in general conference registration. Add one to your order when registering. Capacity is limited. All three workshops run at the same time, so only choose one (unless you can be in two places at the same time, which is awesome).

Brand Strategy Is Dead: How to Execute, Not Kill, Your Master Plan | Josh Levine, Director of Strategy, Great Monday

Culture is the vital component every organization needs to make their brand strategy real in the workplace and the marketplace. Together, we will work through brand positioning in order to understand the core reasons why companies are in business beyond making money. In this workshop we’ll look at how behaviors and choices create workplace cultures — ones that work both with and against a brand position. We’ll identify patterns; create guide-rails; and talk about the executive responsibility and employee role in scaling culture. We’ll examine tactics to activate culture by using positioning as a decision-making filter and end the session by creating a positioning statement of your own to begin to see for yourselves how your choices and those of your employees affect your workplace culture, and ultimately your brand.

Leading Lean: Managing Lean UX Work in the Enterprise | Kate Rutter, Principal,

The need for organizational innovation has never been more acute, and concepts of Lean Startup, Lean UX and Agile Design are emerging to address this need. But what do these ideas really mean for design and product leaders in the corporate world? In this hands-on workshop, you'll get rapid exposure to the core ideas driving Lean Startup innovation trends, identify a top need for innovation in your company, and draft a pilot plan (an experiment) you can implement immediately. At the end of this workshop you'll have a clear understanding of where and how lean concepts can benefit your work today, and how you can shape your organizational culture to be more innovation-centered in the future.

Scaling Design Beyond Designers | Todd Wilkens, Design Principal, Design Division, IBM

Creating great product experiences takes more than simply hiring talented designers and planting them in your existing teams. The key is to align the WHOLE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (not just the designers) around user experience in a flexible, iterative, and transparent way.

In this workshop, we'll share two core practices recently developed as part of IBM's human-centered design transformation. These practices are proving very successful at aligning the organization from SVPs down to individual designers, developers, and product managers. This works at scale (IBM has 3000 product groups) and for remote teams. This is the first public sharing of these ideas outside of IBM. Be the first to learn about something that is shaping up to be an incredibly effective approach to practicing good design at scale.

Pre-Conference Workshop FAQs

// Do I get access to a pre-conference workshop with my general session ticket?

No. Registration for workshops is not included and is an additional $395 cost outside of general conference registration.

 // May I attend all the workshops?

Unfortunately not. They run at the same time (Sunday, March 16th 8:30am - 12:00pm) so only register for ONE.

 // May I attend a pre-conference workshop if I do not attend the conference?

Yes. There are a limited number of seats available for each workshop allotted for people who cannot attend the full conference.

// If I register for one workshop, but decide to change later, may I?

Maybe. We'll do our best to accommodate all requests to change. Since capacity is limited, we may not be able to do so.

// Will you feed me?

Yes. There will be a light breakfast before the workshops and lunch will be provided immediately after the workshops.
