The University of St. Thomas presents a Music Preparatory School String Institute Gala Concert at 7:00 pm, Friday, July 20, 2012, in UST - Cullen Hall.
A pre-college string concert will be performed on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 7:00 pm, in Cullen Hall featuring winning soloists of the MPS concerto competition and orchestra in music of Vivaldi, Albinoni and Handel.
String players of all ages have rehearsed and will perform concertos for string orchestra by the great Venetian composer, Antonio Vivaldi. Participants also studied manuscripts, Venetian culture and history, and Vivaldi's influence on J.S. Bach at the UST String Institute.
An additional masterclass is being held on Thursday afternoon. Zachary Carrettin, MPS string coordinator, will be the conductor. The concert is the culmination of a week-long intense study of the Baroque string literature by top string players from Houston as well as students from sates other than Texas.
This concert is free and open to the public.
