Last year we had our annual fundraiser Music in the Meadow and it was a huge success. However, one thing was missing. Our event was located off-site and those unfamiliar with who Placer Nature Center is and what we do left the event still not knowing who we are or what we do. This year we decided to have our annual fundraiser on the grounds of Placer Nature Center so all who attended could check out our little gem hidden in the foothills.
Music in the Foothills is designed to be a relaxing afternoon full of good music, good food, dancing, and family fun. It is an informal affair where families are encouraged to bring a blanket to lay out in Garrison’s Park. We will be serving food and drinks (no alcohol, sorry it is a family event). We will have each exhibit staffed with knowledgeable volunteers. We will also be offering guided trail hikes on the top of the hour beginning at 2pm.
The headliner for the event is PROXY MOON. PROXY MOON's music is rooted in American folk, jazz, and blues with a bit of an esoteric, burlesquey poeticism. Comprised of a core group of four multi-instrumentalist musicians with diverse backgrounds, the band is at home in virtually any genre, but brings to them all a bit of an edge. They've been compared to such artists as Tom Waits and Joe Henry.
Along with this relaxing music filled afternoon we will be hosting a raffle featuring donations from local Auburn businesses. Following the theme of an event that we would want to attend our prizes are not small garage sale type items. We are highlighting all that Auburn has to offer in the way of nature exploration with guided hikes, raft trips, and one of a kind artwork just to name a few.
