Murphy/Smith Dance Collective's "Sound Project" explores the relationship between sound and human instinct. In 2011, after establishing themselves as independent emerging choreographers, Pittsburgh-based Jamie Erin Murphy and Renee Danielle Smith assembled Murphy/Smith Dance Collective. "Sound Project" illuminates how the everyday life sounds around us create environment, are a source of communication and even contribute to our general feeling of safety. So what can happen when our familiar soundscape becomes distorted or even disappears?
Collaborating artists include Gordon Nunn (composer), Abigail Adkins, Brady Sanders, Shana Simmons, Laura Warnock, LaMar Williams (dancers), and Frank Ferraro (project mentor). Join Murphy/Smith Dance Collective for a performance that encourages you to participate in a few movement and sound games!
Residency Showings include a complimentary pre-show mixer, an introduction to the work by the artist, a 30-minute performance followed by discussion, and a complimentary post-show audience mixer.
