Does your church look like the Kingdom? On March 1 and 2, the Metro and Uwharrie Districts are sponsoring a seminar on one of the most significant areas of study for the future of the church-Multi-Ethnic Congregations: Churches that Reflect their Communities. Most of us are aware that we are in the midst of a momentous demographic shift. We may, however, still have limited understanding of the changes we are called to make in response.

Mark Deymaz, author of “Building a Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church” will be the main presenter for this event. Mark clarifies the use and meaning of key terms from the book title. Multi-ethnic is used throughout the book and is meant also to imply economic, educational, and generational diversity as well.

I hope your church has taken advantage of Mission Insite and is studying updated demographic information. I hope you are connecting to your communities. If the average age of your congregation is 58 and the average age of the community surrounding your church is 38, then this seminar is for you. If the average income of your congregation differs greatly from the average income of your community, then this seminar is for you. If you are a monoracial congregational in a multi-ethnic community, then this seminar is for you.

This event is for ALL churches. The most important task we have is to connect to our communities.

We are inviting/challenging all districts of the Western North Carolina Conference to have 20% of their churches represented at this significant event.

We are inviting/challenging each district to offer a study on the book Building a Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church by Mark Deymaz for laity and clergy before March 1. (Books may be checked out at the Conference Media Center.)

We are inviting/challenging each CONGREGATION of offer a presentation of the DVD Gospel Without Borders to gain knowledge and clear up misperceptions regarding immigration issues. (Gospel without Borders is approximately one hour and is available to be checked out from the Conference Media Center.)
