MTB Ayiti 2014 Stage Race | Mountain Bike Haiti
Second Annual International
MTB Ayiti Stage Race
28 January – 2 February 2014
The Mountain Bike Haiti Stage Race combines a once-in-a-lifetime cultural immersion experience with the opportunity to build the foundation for a sustainable adventure tourism industry while racing an insanely challenging course thru some of the most rugged and awe-inspiring terrain in the western hemisphere.
MTB Ayiti begins with one day of “ecosystem-building” activites that every participant must complete. Riders will combine the fulfillment of helping develop a biking infrastructure in Haiti with the adrenaline rush of 3 days of racing. The first day of riding consists of 2 Stages that complete a large loop. Stage 1 descends from Ranch Montcel down into Port au Prince, then climbs back up to the epic overlook at Boutillier for the first stage finish. Stage 2 climbs from Boutillier past Fort Jacques and back to Ranch Montcel. Total for Day 1 is approx 37 miles and 9300 vertical feet of climbing
Day 2 of riding takes participants to the famed Rue de Cafe (Coffee Road), a high mountain ridge line through a region that once produced 65% of the world's coffee. Racers will climb from near Cabaret up to Fort Drouet and then traverse to Fort Delpeche before decending back to the beach. Day 2 is approx 45 miles and 14,000 vertical feet of climbing.
Saturday brings the last day of racing. Stage 5 is a dirt crit format race around a short circuit that will give spectators a chance to cheer for all the participants. The remainder of the day will include ecosystem building projects, capped off that evening with an award ceremony and closing celebration party on the moonlit beach.
Registration Fee includes all costs on the ground (lodging, meals, transportation, medical and course support, nightly entertainment, cultural immersion festivities, and more). The lodge for the first three nights is a captivating mountain lodge high above Port au Prince, nestled amidst pine forests and rural farms. Temperatures are shockingly cool for a Caribbean island, and the setting is serene and idyllic, with views extending all the way to the coast on a clear night. The final two nights will be spent at a resort along the Cotes de Arcadines coastline,
The only additional costs will be airfare to/from Haiti and optional excursions. Special flight arrangements are in the works, and we will send info to registered riders, so do *not* book travel until notified. Strictly limited to 60 racers - Register now!
