Join Dr. Creasy at St. Monica Catholic Community as together we "Meet the Women of the Bible!"
Every work of art--literary, visual or musical--mirrors the time and culture from which it emerges, and the Bible is no exception. The cultural world of the Bible is: 1) patriarchal, 2) monarchial, 3) polytheistic and 4) slave-holding. In a profoundly patriarchal world, how do women function, exert influence, build relationships and develop in their relationship with God, one another and their community?
That will be the subject of our four 3-week Monday evening sessions:
Session #1--September 24; October 1, 8
In this session we will explore the mother of us all, Eve, along with the three matriarchs: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachael and Leah
Session #2--December 3, 10, 17
In this session we will encounter the warriors, Deborah and Yael; the Queens, Bathsheba and Esther; and the "Beloved" in the Song of Songs.
Session #3--February 4, 11, 18
In this session we will explore the women of the Gospels: the "woman with the hemorrhage" and Jairus' daughter; the "sinful woman" at the home of Simon the Pharisee; the "woman caught in adultery"; Mary Magdalene; the sisters, Mary and Martha; Paul's friend, Lydia; and the nine women, leaders in the church at Rome.
Session #4--May 13, 20; June 3
We will spend our entire final session in May on Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
