Molecular Ecology and Evolution of Dragonflies
An authentic research experience in genetics awaits you in this week-long workshop. Students will extract and amplify dragonfly DNA. Using special software, students will examine the DNA sequences and determine the family tree of their specimens.
Laboratory and analytical methods include:
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Gel electrophoresis
- Interpreting results of sequenced dragonfly DNA
- Running a Blast Analysis
- Creating a phylogenetic tree
Participants must be entering Grades 7, 8, or 9
Dates: August 4 - 8, 2014, 8 am - 1 pm
