Increasing public concern about food has raised some tough questions: Was New York City’s soda regulation a smart policy or a heavy-handed misstep? Is there anything wrong with the way snack foods are developed and marketed? Do the benefits of genetically modified seeds outweigh the hazards?

Enter MOFAD Roundtable, a new program from the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) that brings together top experts and advocates to debate today’s most controversial food issues. By presenting opposing viewpoints and offering opportunites for audience participation, MOFAD Roundtables will empower people to draw their own informed conclusions and carry on the debate in their own communities.

MOFAD will kick off the program with an exciting live debate focused on New York City’s soda regulation. While the regulation’s fate may be in question, it remains a high-profile example of a growing and controversial trend of public intervention in private dietary choices.

Speakers include:

Dave Arnold, Founder and President, Museum of Food and Drink

Joel Berg, Executive Director, New York City Coalition Against Hunger

Nicholas Freudenberg, Faculty Director, NYC Food Policy Center at Hunter College

Parke Wilde, Associate Professor, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University

J. Justin Wilson, Senior Research Analyst, The Center For Consumer Freedom

Lisa Young, Adjunct Professor, Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, New York University

This event is co-sponsored by the NYC Food Policy Center at Hunter College. MOFAD Roundtable is a continuing series that will be broadcast on the Heritage Radio Network and hosted on MOFAD’s website, www.mofad.org.

This event is FREE. Space is limited, RSVP required.
