So you never thought your life would be revolving around a little screen no bigger than your palm size. The day has come. Not only that, you used the little mobile device to create unbelievable amount of content, daily textual conversations (or sextual for some of you), notes, calendar reminders and tons of photo images and yes, video footage!
For those desiring to make the photo images and video creation to speak of personal stories, creative technologies and applications are on the rise to fulfill that demand. We will present you 3 startups that cut into that space with their unique offerings putting or enabling the story telling ability right in your hands, literally.
On deck for our March, 2013 event:
::Jostein Svendsen, founder/CEO, WeVideo which is an online video editing platform designed to enable individual users to collaboratively upload, edit and share online videos. By leveraging the power of the cloud, WeVideo makes HD quality editing available for anyone on any browser.
Jostein had founded and grown several successful companies in digital media, digital financial services and digital commerce including two of Norway’s leading multimedia and Internet companies, both of which went on to become successful publicly traded issuers in Sweden. One of them grew to become one of the worlds largest internet development agencies, with 2000 employees worldwide. 1998 he founded Sharepeople, one of the world’s first multi-market online stockbrokers. With investment from Goldman Sachs, Soros, GE Capital and others, Sharepeople grew to become the second best-known financial service brand in the UK after Barclays Bank. The company was acquired by American Express in 2000 and renamed American Express Financial Services Europe.
In 2002, Jostein helped launch a new credit card and savings bank in Norway, which quickly became the first branchless/online-only bank in the Norwegian market. The bank was acquired by Banco Santander in 2005.
::Mike Pritchard, co-founder/CEO, Yeti.io, which provides a simple cloud based streaming video service for App developers. Yeti.io is a spin-off from Startal, where Mike was the EVP.
Yeti.io was born when Startal, an App development house, was building out the iOS App for the kids TV show, LazyTown. With a need for a high quality streaming video service tied to in-app purchasing, we were amazed to find no 3rd party solution existed at a price point that made it economical. So, we built it ourselves.
Mike is a startup veteran, having worked for 6 startups over the years. He holds a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence from Edinburgh University, UK and a Bachelors in Cybernetics from the University of Reading, UK. His early career was in the defense industry working on aerial robotics platforms and robotics for NASA and DoD before being lured into the startup world.
::Michael, Yuen, founder/CEO, Showbucks, creator of Action! app. Showbucks is a mobile video platform that brings face-to-face human interaction to social apps by combining social video with social games. ACTION! is the first cross-platform Video Charades app for iOS and Android devices. Pick a word, act it out in front of your phone's camera, challenge friends to watch your video & guess the word. Share your video on the Wall of Fame and let everyone play your game.
Michael has a long history in the entertainment and gaming industry including producing 3D online games to promote movies and TV shows such asThe Titanic, The Fifth Element and Xena - Warrior Princess. He was named a Rising Star by Animation Magazine and won The Grand Prize for SGI's Best 3D Online Content In the World Contest. Previously he founded a VC funded Apptera which produced the first web-based platform for developing and managing enterprise-class speech applications. It was named SpeechTek Product of the Year. His interests include screenplay writing and filmmaking. His romantic comedy "Spaghetti vs. Noodle" won The Best Pitch for a Feature Film at the Sundance Producers Conference.
