MLK Youth Summit
Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (CST)
December 4, 2013
Greetings South Mississippi Youth:
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Coast-wide Celebration is fast approaching. Our theme this year is “The Dream is Golden”. As we planned our agenda you were on our minds and we acted on your suggestions to have an event just for kids separate from the Battle of the Bands. Some of your peers have helped design the first annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Summit.
On January 11, 2013 from 9am to 12 noon at the Biloxi Civic Center, youth ages 10-18 are invited to participate in “It’s a HOOD Thing - Changing the Perception”.
We have phenomenal facilitators excited to assist in your interactive discussions to:
- EXPAND YOUR HOOD (Challenging your mind through nontraditional education),
- RESPECT YOUR HOOD ( Building your integrity, self confidence, and leadership skills),
- REP YOUR HOOD ( stand your ground through active civic engagement)
- KNOW YOUR HOOD (explore cultural arts and history left out of your school books)
Along with this jam packed agenda we will have entertainment and giveaways! You don’t want to miss out on our attendee gift.
What do you need to do? Show up and show out! This is your event! If you have a talent (poetry, singing, musical talent, dancing) please plan to share during the Entertainment segment. There will be prizes and an opportunity to be featured at the Sunday Inspiration Service on January 19, 2014. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for the MLK, Jr. Youth Board who will work together to design next year’s summit.
Yes, this is all about finding the Martin Luther King, Jr. within you and reaching your Golden Dreams!!
Please know that we are excited and are sure that the youth summit will meet our mission to CELEBRATE, PARTICIPATE, and ANTICIPATE ......CHANGE.
