Class Description

Learn to discern the aesthetics hidden in common objects around you. The course will begin with a 45 min. lecture on the history of found object art, beginning with Marcel Duchamp and showing other works throughout the 20th century. Also in the power point will be examples of instructor’s (Joe Kewin) found wood mixed media creations from 2013.

Working with instructor, you will explore your own creativity as you learn to work with found objects, wood, shop tools, paint, magazines, markers, glue, xacto knives, etc. You will make an abstract "painting" by blending media and using multiple tools to collage materials and make a vivid visual overload two dimensional work of art on the found wood.

Scheduling

Four courses, three hours each with the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, March 4th 6-9pm
  • Wednesday, March 5th 6-9pm
  • Tuesday, March 11th 6-9pm
  • Wednesday, March 12th 6-9pm

Who is this for?

Anyone with a desire to create! Artists of all skill levels, even complete novices are encouraged to attend.

Materials Provided

The found wood will be provided by instructor to work on; similar to a blank canvas that is changing the identity of an object. You will receive a full critique of your finished project.

Instructor Bio

Mr. Joe Kewin is a successful commercial artist with works commissioned all around the world.  He works day & night to create and promote art, and his work is shown widely in gallaries.  He has adapted to modern culture through the manipulation and exploration of the arts.  Thus he has become adept in many different media and often works in multi-media.  His work style is as tactile as it is visual, and this results in pieces that are both striking and evocative.

Mr. Kewin's instructional concept is similarly non-traditional as he strives to interact with each student to experiment with his/her aesthetic style.  He does not disregard the importance of traditional, mimetic art.  Instead, he seeks to lead students past this form in an exploration of the self as well as the ideas of art.

His work can be seen at Joekewin.com
