Chef Ray Garcia and Farmscape will join A Sustainable Kitchen in the Surfas Test Kitchen for Mid-Summer Tomato Madness’.
The end of July...home gardens and farmers markets are bursting with luscious tomatoes of all varieties, shapes, sizes and colors. Is there a better time to learn a few new takes on this summertime favorite? And who better to learn from than chef Ray Garcia of FIG Restaurant in Santa Monica, recently call a Vegetable Superhero by the Food & Wine blog.
And who's bringing the tomatoes? Farmscape!
Ray Garcia, Executive Chef of FIG Restaurant, a seasonal bistro featuring creative farm-to-table cuisine, since 2009 is a native of Los Angeles. He has spent years perfecting his craft, delighting the palates of discerning guests and locals alike, at the fine dining
establishments in The Peninsula Beverly Hills. He also spent time learning from a variety of renowned chef at landmark institutions, including Douglas Keene at Cyrus and Thomas Keller at the French Laundry. When asked, he describes his food as “fresh, simple, unassuming, sustainable, locally and organically grown.”
Farmscape is the largest urban farming venture in Los Angeles which designs, installs and maintains urban farms throughout Southern California for residences, restaurants, businesses and schools. Since 2009 Farmscape has set up over 250 urban farms and maintains 150 of them on a weekly basis. In the spirit of the Victory Gardens of the 1940’s,Farmscape seeks to demonstrate the role backyards can play in creating a better, more localized food system.
Please join us to see what creative (and sustainable) tomato madness transpires.
