Mickey Munoz Mongoose Cup

 Dana Point Festival of Whales

 March 9, 2013

Baby Beach, Dana Point, CA

(Dana Point, CA) - The fourth annual Mickey Munoz Mongoose Cup will be held Saturday March 9, 2013 at Baby Beach, Dana Point Harbor.  Please join Mickey and his friends for a day of great enjoyment including a Fun Paddle, Waterman Expo & SUP Clinics, Sport of Kings Foundation “Luck of the Draw” SUP Knockout & Relays and a delicious BBQ.

A vital component to Dana Point’s Festival of Whales, the Mongoose Cup, is a paddling event open to everyone and is specifically designed for beginners and those new to the sport of stand-up paddling (SUP).  The Mongoose Cup is a great opportunity to learn new skills & techniques and checkout the latest in paddling and surfing products.  Event proceeds will benefit local organizations including the Sport of Kings Foundation and Doheny Longboard Surfing Association (DLSA).

New this year will be the Sport of Kings Foundation’s “Luck of the Draw” SUP Knockout Races & Relays.  These very exciting races will test the agility and paddling skills of competitors on a very short and close to shore course.  The competition will prove to be thrilling to racers and spectators alike.  All entrant start positions and relay teams to be selected by “Luck of the Draw” (random).

“Since the passing last year of my great friend and shaper, Terry Martin, we have set up the Sport of Kings Foundation (501c3) whose mission is to provide assistance to the lives of people in the Southern California surfing industry by continuously evolving to meet their health and human services needs” says legend Mickey Munoz.  “We are very honored to have this vital foundation, that actively assists and supports those involved with the production of the tools of our sport, to benefit from and be part of the Mongoose Cup”.

The Mongoose Cup will feature motivating SUP Clinics from experts in the sport.  Clinics will be set-up on the beach that cover paddling & training techniques, SUP racing skills, kid’s SUP, core fitness and SUP yoga.  Also set up at the event will be an informative Waterman Expo that includes exhibitors from the SUP and surfing industries.  Attendees will be able to checkout the latest paddling and surfing equipment, try samples and take advantage of the SUP pros on site giving instruction throughout the day.

Entry fee to the Fun Paddle and SUP Clinics is $20 and includes a BBQ lunch ticket.  For an additional $20 entrants can enter the Sport of Kings Foundation “Luck of the Draw” SUP Knockout & Relays and receive a commemorative Mongoose Cup tee.  Mongoose Cup tees and BBQ lunches will be available separately to the public.  Entrants can register online at http://mongoosecup2013.eventbrite.com/ before the event or at Baby Beach the day of the event.

The Mongoose Cup is sponsored and supported by the City of Dana Point, Dana Point Harbor and Dana Point’s Festival of Whales.
