Join us at 5:30-7:30pm on February 19th at the Rusty Nail for a meetup.
We'll be joined by Tulane professor MarkAlain Dery, DO, MPH, FACOI, who will share information about a web app he is creating to encourage HIV testing. Dr. Dery's app will integrate with Facebook and reward those who get tested for HIV. Novel approaches to reducing the spread of HIV are certainly needed given the high incidence here in New Orleans.
That's not the only thing unique about this project.
Dr. Dery is crowdfunding the app using Experiment.com, which is a new crowdfunding platform for scientific research. Dr. Dery's crowdfunded proof-of-concept will be deployed in the New Orleans area. If the proof-of-concept is successful, Dr. Dery will seek traditional grants to take the program nationwide.
Check out Dr. Dery's Experiment.com page and donate to the project here:
Can an App Encourage Regular HIV Testing?
At the meeting we'll also discuss Health 2.0 New Orleans plans and speakers for the next few months. We'll announce plans that are already lined up, and you'll have the opportunity to provide feedback on plans you'd like incorporated into our activities this year.
