Join OC Film Fiesta and the upcoming Frida Cinema onSaturday, September 7 as we team with a talented collective of local musicians to breathe new life into one of cinema’s most groundbreaking and enduring classics – Fritz Lang’s 1927 science-fiction masterpiece, Metropolis.
At once an event that celebrates so much of what an arthouse cinema strives to present – a foreign film, a silent film, a classic film, a live performance, and as part of a locally-curated film festival – this presentation will help The Frida Cinema raise needed funds to achieve our goal to begin programming our arthouse in January, 2014. To help us meet that end, the following talented musicians have lent their talents for this special one-time presentation:
Stephen Anderson – SciFi Noise Collage
Glenn Bach - Sound Artist
Chelsea Camille Isaacs – Voice
Steuart Liebig – Electric Bass, Electronics, and Touch Surfaces
Sander Roscoe Wolff – Synths, Guitars, & Loops
Recently completed and remastered after 25 minutes of lost footage was unearthed in a museum in Argentina, Metropolis tells the tale of a dystopian future where humans are divided into two groups: the citizens, who celebrate a thriving economy and idyllic surroundings in a towering city above, and the workers, who toil and slave in the dismal factories below. When a citizen of Metropolis uncovers the truth about the plight of the workers, it sets in motion a stirring tale of revolution, love, identity, and the power of human will. Credited for influencing countless sci-fi classics including Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Dark City, Metropolis is an amazing feat of filmmaking as both a mind-blowing extravaganza of visuals and effects, and as a searing satirical examination of class, society, and political corruption.
We are very excited to screen the fully-restored, 145-minute version of Metropolis at this special event.
