We will be holding a team/individual workout in honor of David E. Hickman and Samuel F. Pearson. While we will honor these two men specifically, we do NOT forget the rest of the fallen that have given the ultimate sacrifice for us and for our country.
Crossfit and the military have become somewhat intertwined over the years. The military has adapted Crossfit into their workout regime and Crossfit has been issuing “HERO” workouts for those who have fallen. These “HERO” workouts are mostly based off of what the solider liked to do when they worked out. These workouts are released on Crossfit.com with a detailed description about that person and they have a workout named after them. These workouts are often named after their last name, but nick names they earned are also used to label the specifically. Gyms all over the country see these workouts online and do them throughout the year and every Memorial Day.
This year, we are going to do a workout called “ZEUS”. This was named after U.S. Army Specialist David E. Hickman, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. He died on November 14th, 2011 in Baghdad, Iraq. He is survived by his wife Calli and parents David and Veronica and brother Devon.
This workout is special to our gym because one of our current members served with David and his unit.
The next person we are honoring on this day is local HERO Samuel F. Pearson, assigned to the 376th Finance Company, 88th Regional Readiness Command. He died on Oct 10th in Baghdad, Iraq and is survived by his parents, Randi and Carolyn and his brothers Rich, John, and Andy and his sister Laura.
Sam is special to a lot of people in the community of Piqua and beyond. This is why our gym is going to take the money raised from this event and create a scholarship foundation for the Piqua High School that will be given out annually in his name. We have asked his parents to lead on the type of scholarship that will be given out.
With that said, here are the details on the workout:
