Event Details

The MIT/MassDOT IAP Hackathon
12 PM - 7 PM, January 29th @ E15-209 (Wiesner Conference Room)
12 PM - 7 PM, January 30th @ E14-525
Co-hosted by the MIT Center for Future Civic Media and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation

Have a great idea for a phone or web app that uses MBTA data? Want to play with real-time bus tracking information, LED scrollboards, and Bluetooth-enabled watches? Interested in encouraging data transparency in local government agencies? Come join one or both days of our two-day hackathon, where you can meet other interested developers, get your questions answered by representatives from MassDOT, and help make public transportation in the Boston area an even better experience.

UPDATE: NextBus has released the feeds for MIT's Tech Shuttle services! Come create tools that can be used right here in our community.

Suggested projects:
* Construct a kit that helps business owners set up their own LED scrollboards that display when the next bus is coming

* Something using Bluetooth-enabled watches, courtesy of Fossil
* Text message interface for retrieving schedule information.
* Phone/web/physical apps for TechShuttle data
* And, of course, anything you can think up!

For questions or concerns, please email cxu@media.mit.edu.

The Media Lab is two buildings located at the intersection of Ames St. and Amherst St., right next to the Kendall T stop.

E15, the building we are in for Friday, is the smaller and older building on the Ames St. side that looks like this on the outside and this on the inside.

E14, the building we are in for Saturday, is the bigger and newer building on the Amherst St. side that looks like this on the outside and this on the inside.

The two buildings are connected on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th floors.

For Saturday

Go to the side of E14 that faces Ames St. Someone will be waiting at the door for the first 2 hours--if you need to get in afterwards, call (765) 537-8747 to be let in. We'll send someone down periodically to check for stragglers. The room is 525, the conference room on the 5th floor.
