Young Lawyers for Education and Math-Amazing Neighorhoods will host a middle grades math competition between several Southwest and Northwest Atlanta neighborhoods on August 31, 2013. This competition is an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery of critical math concepts learned over the course of the previous year and practiced over the summer. There will be prizes, a DJ, and live entertainment--in addition to a spirit of healthy competition and community pride.
This is an exciting new Atlanta tradition which seeks to improve math proficiency among students in select neighborhoods across the city.
Donations are being collected to cover costs associated with the competition, including prizes, certificates, entertainment, food, and other amenities. We are looking to raise a total of $3,500 to cover total costs for upcoming competitions, and are therefore asking for a minimum donation of $75. Donations can be made online via www.eventbrite.com or in person at the fundraiser.
Formerly Neighborhood Mathematica, Math-Amazing Neighborhoods was recognized by the White House as a Champion of Change program. The competition was established in 2010 to offer a new tradition in communities and to help students strive for self-motivated success in math.
100% of the funds raised at this event will go towards the competition on August 30, 2013 or another competition occurring this year.
We hope to see you on July 30th!
