Join Mass Energy, People's Power & Light, and the Center for EcoTechnology on Sunday, July 31st for a wind turbine tour, solar array tour, and mountain-top adventures at Berkshire East Mountain Resort! Registration is closed for the event and tickets have been sold out, so we unfortunately cannot accept walk-ins.
For those who have already registered, please read this important information!
Make registration FASTER by signing your waivers in advance! EACH attendee in your party will need to complete an Event Waiver. Please print and bring completed Event Waivers for a faster check-in.
If you forget them, there will be copies available at the event.
Please note: children under the age of 18 must have their waivers completed and signed by a parent or guardian. If you are bringing a child under the age of 18 who is not your child, the waiver forms must be completed and signed in advance by the child’s legal guardian.
Attendees who have purchased zip-lining tickets will ALSO need to sign zip-lining waivers. You can do so in advance and online to speed up the check-in process.
Instructions: Scroll down and you will see a list of names. Look for a row that says "Adult" for zip-liners 16 and older, or a row that says "Youth" for zip-liners under the age of 16. click the "plus" sign on that row. A form will expand and will prompt you for personal information (name, date of birth, contact information). Complete all required fields and click "Save" at the bottom. Once sucessfully saved, you should be able to see your name on the list. Important: Click on your name and complete the electronic signature. Once completed, please know that your name will be visible but no personal information will be displayed or accessible to future visitors of the page.
Each zip-liner in your party should complete this process using a row labeled "Adult" or "Youth," whichever category they fall into.
You can also PRINT & BRING your completed Zip Waiver for a faster check-in.
Please note: children under the age of 18 must have their waivers completed and signed by a parent or guardian. All zip-liners must fulfill the following requirements:
- Minimum age: 8 years
- Minimum weight: 70 lbs
- Maximum weight: 275 lbs
Additionally, all zip-liners must wear closed-toed shoes (and longer shorts or pants are recommended).
The zip-line tour takes 2-3 hours. As zip-lining will begin at 1:00 pm, all zip-liners will have completed their tours by 4:00 pm. If you are waiting for a friend or family member to finish zip-lining, you are welcome to hang out at lodge.
Riding the Mountain Coaster/$25 Coupon
Each non-zip-lining attendee in your party has the option of receiving a coupon for a free ride on the Mountain Coaster after the tour, OR a $25 coupon to be used towards another activity at Berkshire East. Mass Energy/PP&L staff will distribute coupons at the event. After the event, you will be shuttled back down the mountain and can then redeem your coupon for your Mountain Coaster ride or for your pre-booked adventure.
Each Mountain Coaster car holds up to two passengers—a driver and a rider. Children must be 3 to ride, 9 to drive, and 16 to drive with a rider. Height and weight restrictions also apply.
Those attendees who choose a $25 coupon towards another adventure, such as rafting ormountain biking, and have not pre-booked an adventure for that day can opt to use the coupon anytime until September 30, 2016.
You are responsible for booking your activity or redeeming your free Mountain Coaster ride and signing all necessary waivers.
Arrival and Registration
The event starts on the back porch of Berkshire East’s lodge. Registration will open at 9:30 am. Electric vehicles will be available for you to check out starting then!
Walk up the path on the LEFT of the lodge and you'll see us! Please arrive no later than 10 am in order to register and participate in the tour. Though you do not need to bring tickets or waivers in order to check-in, please bring waivers for a faster registration.
We are unable to provide bus transportation for the event, so if you are looking for a ride or are able to transport others, let Anna know: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Directions from Boston (approximately 2.5 hours):
Take Route 2 West. Eventually, you will merge onto I-91 South, briefly. Take the first exit (26) to get back onto Route 2 West. At the traffic circle, take the second exit onto Route 2 West. Continue to follow Route 2 for 17 miles to Charlemont. Take a left following the signs for Route 8A South. You will cross a bridge. At the intersection take a left, and Berkshire East will be on your right.
Directions from central Western Massachusetts:
Take Route 8A North. Continue onto South River Road. Take a right into the parking lot.
Call Berkshire East at (413) 339-6617 if you need clarification on the directions. We recommend you program this number into your cell phone, just in case!
Plenty of parking is available in the parking lot right in front of the lodge. We recommend you carpool to save gas!
- 9:30 am: Registration opens (you must check-in!) and electric vehicles available to check out.
- 10 am: Welcome by Mass Energy/People's Power & Light, CET, & Berkshire East
- 10:15 am: Chairlift begins to bring attendees to wind turbine. Guided hike to turbine (10 minutes). Shuttle available to those who cannot hike or ride chairlift.
- 11:00 am: Lunch, wind turbine tour.
- 11:45 am: Hike or shuttle to solar array tour.
- 12:00 pm: Solar array tour.
- 12:45ish: Tour finishes. Zip-liners begin zip-lining. All other attendees are driven back down to lodge by shuttle. Please note: there may be a 20-30 minute wait for a shuttle ride, as the shuttles only hold about 2/3 of our expected attendees.
Getting to the Wind Turbine
Attendees will take the chairlift up to the turbine. There could be a short wait for the chairlift as we have many people to get to the top of the mountain. All will wait at the top of the chairlift until all attendees have been brought up, then hike together to the turbine.
At the top, you will be led on a 10-minute hike to the wind turbine. After the tours, those who are zip-lining will depart in groups. Those who are not zip-lining will be shuttled by bus back down to the lodge.
For those who cannot or do not wish to take the chairlift or are uncomfortable with a 10-minute hike down a steep hill, Mass Energy/PP&L will provide a bus to drive attendees up. All attendees who are not zip-lining will be shuttled back down after the tours.
The Sierra Club Massachusetts Chapter will be showcasing an electric vehicles at the event and representatives from the MOR-EV will be present to answer your questions about state rebates and federal tax incentives for electric vehicles. Feel free to wander over to get a feel for these cars, inside and out! If you own an electric vehicle and would like to show it off, please feel free to bring it! We recommend you arrive early (before 10:00 am) to have time to see the electric vehicles.
Lunch will be catered by Berkshire East and will consist of meat, cheese, and vegetarian wraps, chips, cookies, and fruit (all nut-free). Beverages have kindly been donated by Polar Beverages, another great local company. A variety of seltzer and bottled water will be available.
We do not have gluten-free or dairy-free options. If you have special dietary needs and do not think there will be appropriate food for you, please plan to bring some extra lunch for yourself.
What to Bring
- Wear comfortable clothing & hiking shoes
- Completed event waivers for each attendee (see waivers section, above)
- Refillable water bottle
- Bug spray
- A camera (it’s beautiful, and you can share your photos with us on Facebook andTwitter!)
What happens if it rains?
The weather looks good! The event will go on in rain. If extreme weather is forecasted, check your email before leaving the house. If the event is rescheduled, you will be notified via email before 6:00am on Sunday morning..
