Martin Buber and his Interlocutors
Professor Claire Sufrin
Sundays, October 13, 20 and 27, 2013
Explore three of the 20th Century’s greatest thinkers, all of whom had the experience of escaping Nazi Germany: Martin Buber, Abraham Joshua Heschel, and Emmanuel Levinas. The class will explore and compare their philosophies around Jewishness and Judaism and will consider how the Holocaust affected the way each asked questions of meaning.
Claire Sufrin is Visiting Assistant Professor in Religious Studies and Jewish Studies at Northwestern University in the Jewish Studies Program and Department of Religious Studies. She is also a member of the faculty at Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership.
